What Is Kratom?
Kratom, latin name Mitragyna Speciosa, is a tree native to the tropical jungles of southeast Asia and many Indonesian islands. This broad-leaved evergreen is in the same tree family as the coffee tree, and can grow to heights of 85 feet if carefully cultivated. Users of Kratom claim that is has medicinal properties and it has been used for such purposes in southeast Asia since the early 19th century.
WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
Since Kratom is native to a large area of the world, there are many different growers and manufacturers distributing it. The most popular types of Kratom originate from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the islands of Bali and Borneo. Some Kratom also comes from New Guinnea, but is not as commonly found.
HOW IS IT MADE?
The final product that is sold in stores nationwide is made through a very simple process. Fully grown Kratom leaves are harvested and dried until there is no moisture remaining. Fully dried leaves are then put into a grinder which pulverizes them into a fine powder. Often Kratom will be sold in a capsule in which the powdered Kratom is contained by either a gelatin or vegan-friendly vegetable fiber capsule.

The true effects of Kratom are still relatively unknown due to the limited amount of research available on it.
